Whoohoooo!.... it's that time of year again!

Reserve the date in your diary... it's the 2010 Greyhound Gathering & Dog's picnic.

This event is held every year as part of the International Greyhound Remembrance weekend in memory of all the greyhounds who have suffered & died because of the racing industry.

We have stalls from Greyhound Action, South West Sighthounds, Classy Collars, Bristol DAWG & other local charities (tbc), a cake stall, amazing raffle, & refreshments (please bring a picnic though!).

If anyone else would like a stall please send me a PM. The more the merier so dont be shy!

There is also a completely fenced in walled garden next to the picnic area where dogs will be able to have some safe off lead exercise.
It is an old victorian outdoor swimming pool which is now a wildlife area & garden with a small pond.

Obviously the whole of Eastville park is there for dogs which are good off lead BUT this walled garden will be great for dogs who dont have great recall to have some fun.

Please spread the word & give flyers & posters to you local vets to display and to fellow dog people!!

All dogs are welcome - you don't have to bring a greyhound!!

There is plenty of space for everyone to spread out & trees for people to picnic & rest under.

If the weather is hot, we will have paddling pools & sponges for the dogs to cool off!

Directions:

For parking for the picnic there is a small free car park in the park, have a look at this map:

Basically turn off Fishponds Rd into Oakdene Rd, then first left again into Park Avenue. If the car park is full then there is parking in the adjacent streets.

For people with swishy Satnavs, the postcode is BS5 6QL.

If anyone has any mobility problems (dogs or people) and needs to drive into the park, please send me a message and we will arrange for you to drive actually on site.

I hope you have a fab day! Sadly I can't make it as it is my mum's birthday do that day. Hope you get good weather (I remember last year well, still drying out my clothing!!).

Weather is looking great for the weekend yay!!

We have some fabulous prizes for the raffle included nylabones, various dogs toys, a micro-hifi, loads of james Wellbeloved biscuits, a massive stuffed dog, a training lead, bottle of Rocks drinks, nakd bars, welly boot bag, treat tin, treat pouch, dog brushes, car window airer thingy, bottle of plonk and more!

We also have yummy cakes for sale including vegan & gluten free one!

As it looks like its going to be warm we will have paddling pools out for the dogs.

The four of us will be at this event at Bristol, I will be parking near the traders due to both me and Missy having bad painful legs. See everyone there, Menta is looking forward to seeing Elkie and her hounds.

Yes, anyone with mobility problems (dogs or people) are welcome to drive on site.

Gutted that I have to miss this - but I'm involved in a poundies rescue transport today. There are 9 pts dogs coming out altogether from 2 pounds. It's been brilliantly coordinated.

So sorry about missing the fun

Well we were there from noon until 2pm, sorry no photos as I was busy with my three enjoying meeting all the other dogs especially the Greyhounds, Menta caused quite a number of questions about what type of dog she is. It got slightly too hot Missy found a paddling pool full of water and decided to walk through it to cool her feet off, Merlin enjoyed me splashing him all over but Menta the dog who will jump into dirty puddles would not go in the paddling pool as the water was too clean. Mind you all three found the various water bowls around to have a drink.

It was a wonderful day. Lots of popel & their lovely dogs came along, despite the fact that there were 3 other animal events within a few miles!!

The RSPCA had their anual fun day & dogs show just a couple of miles away, there was a Dog's friend sponsored walk along teh cycle track and our local vets had a big charity fun day & dog show!!

Despite that, £470.20 was raised in total from the raffle, refreshments, merchandise and donations!

All the stallholders seemed to do well.

Dogs (and me!) are sooo tired now. Hopefully there will be photos on the facebook page tomorrow.

p.s. Sorry you couldnt make it Wendy, but I understand that the transport was more important & welll done! x

it sounds like it was great fun but we're all very disappointed there are no photos, can you post some on here please, I can't get the hang of facebook

Sorry I dont have any as I was stuck behind the raffle stall all day, but I will ask the person taking the photos if they can post some.
