Hi,

I'm looking for a laid back whippet or very small lurcher.

I am an experienced lurcher owner, and have a 5* home with lots of squashy sofas and underfloor heating - as well as miles of bridle paths to offer!

I do have a 3 and a half year old daughter though, so it needs to be a placid dog. (My daughter has some disabilities, but is particularly gentle - and is always supervised >0

I am based in Nottinghamshire but could travel to collect the right dog.

Many thanks,
Claire

Many thanks for your replies -

now I know this sounds mad... but I've got to have a pale coloured dog, because..... it's my husbands one request. He's very house proud - and doesn't want dark dog hair all over our cream sofas! (As he has to put up with a dog mad / horse mad wife, I do try to appease him too..)

Thanks anyhow.

How about Jasper sweet looking whippet cross, he's with Tameside and Glossop RSPCA and has been there since before Christmas. He would look just nice on a cream sofa.

Umm, yes it does sound mad to me. blink.gif

I would be worrying more about rescuing a dog that would fit in with my family... colour co-ordinating with furniture is way down the list of priorities for me!

You can always put a throw over the sofa and wash it regularly, thats what most people with dogs do.

My husband isn't the animal lover - I am !

I am looking for a small, laid back sight hound, who will fit in well into our home, who is up for long walks on our bridle paths, who can chill on squashy sofas, and doesn't mind being stroked endlessly by my daughter (or me)..

but, my husband just isn't a dog lover. They 'grow on him'.

His concern is our sofas..

If it's the one compromise I have to make to give a dog a lovely home .. then I'll make it.

p.s. I once caught my husband saying 'Daddy's home', to my previous lurcher, (although we're not allowed to talk about it..)
and he used to cook him steak.... So it's not like he gives them a hard time - in any way!

Just a shame that on a 'friendly' site like this, with what I thought was like minded people, that I felt i had to justify myself.
Disappointing.

Sorry you're disappointed, but clearly either you're new to rescue or you've been lucky, as believe me, there are MANY instances of people choosing - and returning!! - dogs SOLELY on the merit of colour schemes etc - rescuers here have to cope with that sort of people too often so I'm afraid the comment about the sofa really did need justifying.

We are friendly, and like minded, but also, rightly or wrongly perhaps in your eyes, cautious. flowers.gif

I've been involved with rescues for over 20 years - so not that new. (My previous dog was a particularly bad 'RSPCA case dog' -where they actually managed to get a serious conviction. ) However, no rescue has ever placed an animal with me without doing a home check - and I guess this is where I'd expect to be scrutinized - and quite rightly too. But I'm truly sorry to hear you've had such bad experiences with people on this website. Maybe naively, I've only spotted genuine animal lovers. All the best with your good work - my hunt for a small, laid back light coloured whippety dog continues...

I can only agree with anneski, unfortunately there have been many dumped dogs just because they don't match the furnishings so unfortunately it was a bad turn of phrase. You weren't to know that of course, but in fairness to the very friendly like minded membrs of this forum, neither would they know you weren't one of those people.
I hope you can persuade your husband to come out of the closet and admit his love of dogs thumb.gif lol.gif lol.gif
