But Arden is a very lucky dog! A niece of one of our great volunteers Ann Kelly happened on the scene just as Arden had fled into some bushes. She stopped her car in the middle of the road and rang her auntie Ann, who wasn't far away. She stayed with Arden until Ann arrived. The poor lad was cowering in some very thick brambles and god bless him, he didn't even curl his lip as Ann pulled him out, even though he must have been in tremendous pain and shock. Ann got him straight to the vet so he got pain relief straight away. After a short while he was sedated for an x-ray, which showed that he had fractured his pelvis very badly and would require specialist orthopaedic surgery. The good news was the specialist in Dublin could do the surgery on the following Tuesday, if one of us could get Arden there before 9am on Tuesday morning. The bad news was that it would cost in the region of €800.
Everyone in LAW agreed that whatever our financial difficulties, poor Arden deserved a chance, and Jodie volunteered to take him to Dublin. He had his surgery on Tuesday of last week (the 29th of June) and is making a good recovery at our sanctuary. He needs strict rest and confinement for now and physio later on. He is a very, very sweet and placid boy who has won all our hearts.
We suspect that despite his beautiful nature Arden will be difficult to home as he is a big, black, male lurcher. So we are hoping for a little bit of magic to help find him a special forever home when he's fully recovered from his injury.
Say hello to Sir Arden
These were taken the day he arrived at the sanctuary, before his surgery in Dublin. He was busy digging into his grub! I hope to get some nicer pics of our handsome boy tomorrow.
