I am in no rush what so ever as I believe that the right dog will come along, be it next week, next month or a years time.

Although I've not owned a sight hound I have worked with plenty.

The plus side -

*I am home all the time and when I go out the dog would always come with me. The only time they're ever left behind is when I do the weekly shop as no room in the car.
*The dog will never go back into kennels, when I go on holiday the dog always comes along.
*I offer an active home as I have horses so lots of running about and long walks offered if the dog is up to it.
*I don't mind a dog with an aillement, ie ongoing medication/defects etc as I have experience with animals with problems. My previous dog was on steroids twice a day and I currently have 2 pets with 3 legs and one with partual sight that is on permanent eye drops 3 times a day. I also used to have one with no sight in one eye and only partual in the other.
* I am looking for the right dog, although I prefer shorthaired, I'm not bothered about colour/age/sex. I don't mind a black beauty and I don't mind an oldie either.
* We go regularly to the Elan valley and the beach so lots of fun to be had.

The not so good bits -

* I have 6 cats, all my cats are dog friendly and don't take a bit of notice of dogs but would have to be a cat friendly hound as one is partually sighted and another has 3 legs.
* I would call my house a quiet household, ie not lots of people coming and going and not loads of kids running about screaming but I do have a young son, who is really gentle so far with animals, so must be good with little people.
* My parents also have 4 cats, a yorkie and a border collie. We often go around so must be good with other dogs and they also come to stay a couple of times a year when my parents visit family.
* My garden is well fenced but isn't huge, however I do have 8 acres of land at the stables where the dog can run around to their hearts content, and we have long countryside walks that kept my VERY active collie more than happy. My collie was walked 10 - 15 miles daily and still wanted to play ball when we got home.

This dog will be filling a huge void in my life since I lost my boy and so the right dog is a must.

Sorry for not being around, it's been very busy here. Yes, Holly is here with me (IMG:http://www.sighthoundsonline.org.uk/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thanks to everyone who has pointed me in the direction of several different hounds. It's so hard chosing when there are so many needing homes, but I guess the hound that comes here will choose me. I'll be looking for a hound once Holly is well enough to have her vaccines which hopefully won't be too long.

Hi,
I've got a gorgeous foster with me at the moment - Tango is a whippet cross, and your household sounds just what he is looking for! He has a thread under "Hounds in Rescues", and I've also just put one on "Individual Hounds" as I forgot about Laurie's post!
I won't bore you with any more details, there's plenty on the threads, and I'll update them as Tango progresses.
Good luck with your search.

I think I've found my sighthound now, or rather she found me. I sadly lost my Holly in 24th and had gone to the stray kennels to see what other collies need a home and have my name down for a collie bitch, providing she's not claimed and also just as I was leaving a lurcher was being bought back for the 3rd time and I have reserved her. I've not bought her home yet so I have the weekend to get some lurcheresque stuff in for her. She's young, but not cat tested so I have her on trial to see what she thinks of the cats. I'll keep you all updated.
