SOL had a raffle recently with 7 fantastic prizes. The raffle was to raise much needed funds for Elsie, a poorly treated girl in Ireland, thanks to our generous members we raised a massive £1141 !! Thank you so much to everyone for taking part, without you we couldn't help girls like Elsie and we all know how in need these hounds are, in a world so full of cruelty they're one of the most exploited breeds.
This is the email we sent out to all our members telling them about Elsie and our Raffle plans... We very often hear of cases of dogs who are cruelly treated, abandoned or just homeless. We get used to it, I suppose. But, from time to time, a case comes along that shocks even the veterans of dog abuse. Elsie is one such. She was found in someone’s garden and taken to Limerick Animal Welfare where she has since been cared for. Besides the malnutrition and the mange, Elsie was covered in wounds – consistent with her being used as a bait dog. That means that she was used to encourage fighting dogs to attack. And not just the once because some of her wounds were old and had sort of healed and others were fresh. 
 Can you imagine how anyone could do this? Elsie is now a very frightened, mistrustful little dog. We pray that her physical wounds will heal. The psychological damage will take longer. Elsie's story on our forum |
