We aim to raise public awareness about welfare issue relating to Sighthounds in the UK, Ireland and Spain. To learn more about how sighthounds are bred in mass and exploited please explore the articles and links below. Greyhound Racing - thousands of racing greyhounds are bred every year as money making machines for the racing industry. Many are abused and neglected during their racing careers and so many are just killed because they fail to make the grade. Once they've finished racing they aren't offered a rosey retirement place by the industry. If they are lucky they find themselves in a rescue centre Cruelty in spain - Spanish Greyhounds or Galgos are traditionally hung at the end of the Coursing season and many are abandoned in appalling conditions. Sighthounds Online have been proud to show our support for the rescues working in Spain to save these dogs and lobby the Government into enforcing animal welfare legislation. Abuse in Ireland - Sighthounds Online is committed to helping Irish Rescues who are inundated with unwanted, abandoned and abused Greyhounds, many bred to feed the English Racing Industry. Puppy Farms - the mass breeding of pedigree and increasingly fashionable crosses by people to whom the only motivation is money. The result is Rescues full of unwanted dogs, weak and sickly puppies and neglect and abuse of dogs used as nothing more than breeding machines. Guns and Animals - Along with sighthound rescues we support Gun Control Network’s campaign to have all airguns brought into the registration system. Currently ‘low powered’ airguns can be bought and sold without the need for registration or background checks etc, despite the fact that airguns can and do cause fatal and serious injuries to people, birds and animals.
