About Sighthounds Online

Sighthounds Online is a registered charity that aims to offer 'a lifeline to sighthounds in need.

We came into being on the 21st of July 2004 when a website and forum were set up where like minded individuals could come together and raise funds to help out needy causes, share information and experience of their particular breeds, and to raise awareness of the plight of racing greyhounds and other sighthounds.

We soon realized that there were a great many people out there wanting to help, and as our member numbers grew so the forums and website became larger and covered more topics. It became clear that there were limitations to being a private organisation involved in fund raising and so on May 21st 2005 we became a registered charity, number 1109577.

The aims of Sighthounds Online are;

  • To relieve the suffering of unwanted, abused and neglected dogs, in particular sighthounds, by the provision of financial assistance and grants to any such animal rescue organisation and/or individuals as the trustees consider appropriate and by the provision of appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for such animals.
  • To educate and raise public awareness about the welfare issues pertaining to sighthounds and to make available information and advice by the provision of a website and forums.

We also have a good deal of fun, with friendly chat and competitions for all to enjoy.

We want to see an end to greyhound racing, hunting with dogs and irresponsible, excessive and casual breeding. You can read more about some of these issues on our Awareness pages.
